NVQ - National Vocational Qualification

In partnership with North London Learning Skills Council we are able as a mainstream provider to offer access to the NVQ Qualifications via the course, this is certified by the British Horse Society as the awarding body and will run alongside your training for the BHSAI Qualifications.

The centre will pay the registration fee and you will receive a training bonus and your certificate on attaining each stage.

The NVQ is a government sponsored qualification and is considered a valuable addition on your BHS qualification if you intend to work in the horse industry, potential employers will in the future be looking for a wider range of skills and qualifications and we at Trent Park feel sure that we can prepare you for this future in the horse industry, whether it be yard manager in an equestrian centre, competition yard or free lance teaching.

What is required for the NVQ?

Completion of approx 6 units (3 parts to each unit) and selection of one optional subject.

How much more work will be involved?

Very little, the content of the NVQ is almost identical to the various stages of the BHS exams and the lectures (practical & oral) are the same for both so whilst you are covering the subjects for the BHS grades you are being assessed for the NVQ also. (We have our own Internal Verifier and assessors.) All can be achieved ‘in house’.

Where does the riding come in?

For the NVQ the riding becomes the optional subject whereas for the BHS it is a requirement, however it is possible for us to choose another optional subject if the riding becomes difficult, the aim is to provide you with a qualification that is recognised by the industry.

Do I have to take the NVQ?

No, but it is a valuable bolt on your BHS qualification and in it’s new form is being more and more recognised by employers.
