    Adult Lessons

  • 'C' Group Lessons:   For the beginner rider, we recommend a group lesson with a few other novice riders to help build your confidence.  These first lessons will help you master the principles of riding, mounting, holding the reins, starting, stopping, walking, basic turns and, of course, dismounting!

'B' Group Lessons:  For those who have mastered the basics but wish to improve their technique and learn to canter.

'A' Group Lessons:  For the established rider, etc.

Individual Lessons: These lessons allow the instructor to give one on one attention and are recommended for absolute beginners or for those who wish to master flatwork and position, dressage, show-jumping and cross-country.

Hacking: Once you have mastered the art of cantering, you are ready to explore the wonders of hacking in Trent Park. The bridle paths of Trent Park offer the safest hacking in the area as there are no roads or cars to contend with.

    Children's Lessons

We recommend that children are at least four years old before they start to ride. We offer the following for children aged up to eleven years of age:

½ Individual Lessons:  For younger children, (under six), we offer short individual lessons - half an hour in duration. These are designed to develop familiarity with the pony and build confidence and are not overly instructional.

Is your child ready to move up to a C/C lesson?

Remember ½ individual lessons are only:

  • For four and five year olds.
  • A basic introduction to riding.

Within the lesson your child will cover the basic use of aids, basic position and an introduction to trot including sitting and rising.

The lesson is a lead rein lesson and thus the child will be lead at all times. The lesson will not include work in canter.

When your child is confident and competent in walk and trot it is time to move on to a C/C lesson, where they will progress and gain experience riding with others of the same level. Children need to have had a C/C lesson in order to move on to a C/B lesson.

If your child is only four or five and is proficient in the above then one hour individuals, rather than a group, may be better suited to your child's needs.

If you have any queries or are unsure if your child is ready to move up please feel free to discuss this with either Maria or one of the office staff.

For those children above age six, instructors of all levels are available to provide specialist individual training.

'C' Group Lessons: For the novice rider. In these lessons, the children will learn the basic principles of control, holding the reins, balance, mounting and dismounting! The aim is for the children to have fun whilst learning, and so these principles will be taught with the aid of simple exercises: hands on the head, round the world, etc. For the true novice, the pony will be led but the instruction will soon give the child confidence to progress.

'B' Group Lessons: For those who have mastered the basics and are ready to learn to canter.

'A' Group Lessons: For children who are confident in canter and want to develop their skills.

    Booking Lessons:

All lessons should be booked.  It is sometimes possible to turn up on the off-chance, but a quick telephone call saves disappointment. Once booked, the space is yours. If, for whatever reason, you need to cancel, 24 hours notice must be given or a cancellation fee will be charged. The cancellation fee depends on the amount of notice given but ranges from 50% to 100% of the riding fee.

If you need to change your time within the same day or weekend or want a friend to use your booking, we will always endeavour to help. But PLEASE remember the centre will charge for late cancellations or no-shows when you have booked! Please click here for contact details.
